Registrar as I had paid other moneys to him before the 30th. of June last if he would have gone through my probate work as was intimated by him to me in the morning of that day at about 11 a.m.
It was admitted by the Registrar that the question of delay
as a whole could not be attached to me. That apparently and accord- -ing to the files the delay was due to want of valid sureties. But the Hon. The Colonial Treasurer desired to know how and why the case of Li Ah Shau, deceased, which was his case when he wES Deputy Re istrar and Appraiser, was held up for such a long time. With regard to that case I submit the applicant Li Tam Kiu should not be believed when he says that I never asked him to find sure- -ties and hurry up. He lies when he denies it. I met him several times both on the lungnon-Kowloon City Road and near the Kowloon City Police Station carrying vegetables and on each occasion asked him to hurry up and to get sureties and on each of those occasions be assented to do so and that was how and why the matter was out- -standing when I left the Registry. I would ask the Committee not to believe him that I never informed him that his sureties that he
had submitted were not valid. The Report is on the file and in the usual course it must have gone to the Registrar first and he must have knowthat it was a pauper or small case and did not exercise his discretion to accept the sureties although reported "not valid'
On the 30th. of June last I carried away with me the balances in my hands in the following wetters tobe returned to the respective payers thereof:-
1.
E. Stainfield, deceased.
2.
Li Ah Shau, deceased,
3.
Shek Fuk, deceased,.............
4.

I found the petitioner in the case of Ip Kwai, deceased,
returned to her the $24 soon after my transfer.
and
On my transfer to the General Post Office I interviewed one
of the sons of the petitioner in the case of E. Stainfield,
deceased, and offered the balance of 89 to him to take it to his
father for me, but he intimated that he was not on good terus
